President's Corner

Seems like time flies when you're enjoying amateur radio. Can you believe it, March is gone. Gone are the night time 40 meter QSOs and the 5 a.m. DX pile ups on 20 meters. On the other hand, with 20 meters and other bands open longer we are in store for more great QSOs around the
clock. To enhance your opportunities for "the big one" send $5 for H&S to W5PDW (tell'm I sent you) for your special free sample of the "5ZTY" antenna wax. No CODs, cash only. John has promised to share in the snake oil sale.
"A packed house" can only describe the turn out we had at the March meeting. Thanks to Charles Roeseler, Meteorologist Houston/Galveston National Weather Service, for the fine "Skywarn Spotter Training" program. Someone counted fifty plus club members and visitors. Supporting this program fulfills one of the criteria (public service communications) for the existence of our hobby. Spring is a good time to tidy up your ham shack and ensure your antennas and rigs are in good
working order. Think about auxiliary power sources and auxiliary antenna systems to be used in emergency situations. Preparation!
Your Board of Director's are busy planning for a number of important events. By the time you receive this copy of the NARS NEWS, the annual Novice/Tech class will be under way. The clubs participation in this year's Texas QSO party is in full swing. Walter - KK5LO and George -
K5VUU are also working on this year's Field Day event. If you want to participate, contact one of these guys now. Don't wait. Finally, plans are being made to modify our usage of the Rosehill tower access to better serve a larger number of members. We are on a roll.
There is a new way to submit newsletter articles to the Editor. It's an electronic thang. Go the front of the NARS web site and click "Click to submit Newsletter Article(s)." A blank e-mail will open. Paste your article into the body of the e-mail or attach your file to the e-mail. At some point send your e-mail off. You can also e-mail directly to: narsnews@bfwweb.com
In closing, see you at the weekly Saturday morning
breakfast. The key word for the next few months is "participation." Lots of
good QSOs and DX contacts to all.
